Mission
We are committed to exploring the heart of Vatnajökull glacier, collecting ice and geothermal samples to deepen our understanding of biodiversity and climate change. Our entire expedition is human-powered, relying on sustainable methods to ensure a minimal carbon footprint. Through our research, we aim to contribute valuable knowledge while preserving the very ecosystem we seek to understand.
Research Goals
This study aims to investigate bacterial survival and adaptation in extreme environments through the analysis of ice and geothermal samples from the Vatnajökull glacier. Specifically, we seek to assess the impact of climate change on microbial life and explore the potential discovery of novel microalgae species. The collected samples will be analyzed by a team of microbiologists from the University of Naples.
